West Central 8-Man Football Starts Season Strong

Share

The West Central Heat 8-man football team got their season off to a great start last Friday night, beating Galva 52-8 at Galva High School. With a plethora of seniors on the roster, the Heat claimed an 8-man football state championship in 2022 but fell to (3-6) last fall with a much younger roster. That roster now has a year of experience under their belt and a chip on their shoulder from a 10-win fall-off from an undefeated, (13-0) season in their title run.

Head coach Jason Kirby said on the WRAM Morning on Wednesday morning, that even though it’s just the start, he was extremely pleased at how the offense played, piling up 52 points and over 400 yards on the ground, but it was the defense that had him excited on the sidelines.

The Heat stay on the road this week, heading to Bushnell-Prairie City High School on Saturday afternoon. The Heat actually play their first five games on the road to start the 2024 season. They will play their final four games at home. BPC also got off to a great start in week one, dominating Peoria Heights 44-0.

The Prairie Communications Sports Network will have the West Central/BPC game on Saturday afternoon, with the Sunny 97.7 WMOI pregame show at 12:40, with kickoff at 1:00. Besides the radio, you can also listen online at radiomonmouth.com or on the free 97.7 WMOI app for your smartphone or tablet. Take a pair of headphones and listen right from the bleachers.
