Here’s our first WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the new school year for the week ending Sept. 1, 2024:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior boys soccer player, Bruntsh Bolese. Bruntsh began his final high school season with a bang, scoring all four goals in a 4-1 win over the Illini Bluffs/Farmington co-op. He found the back of the net two more times in the Pekin Invitational. Bruntsh helped the Titans to their 4th tournament championship in five tries.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is junior girls golfer, Meredith Yung. Meredith has been the lowest scoring Red Storm girls golfer in all but one meet so far this season. She placed 2nd in both invitational meets last week. Meredith shot an 85 at the Stark County Invite at Midland Golf Club and was even better in the Mercer County Invitational, carding an 82 at Valley View Golf Club.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior boys golfer, Ethan Nichols. Ethan got his final season of high school golf off to a great start with impressive finishes at two very competitive invitationals. He shot an 18-hole score of 89 at the difficult Macomb Country Club in the Gary Saunders Invite. Ethan was even more locked-in at the Mercer County Invitational at Valley View Golf Club, carding a 78 for 4th place overall.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior boys soccer player, Kellan Oxley. Through just three matches so far this season, Kellan has proven to be a force to be reckoned with on the offensive side of pitch. He found the back of the net twice at the very competitive 8-team Peoria Christian Tournament. Kellan’s foot helped the Streaks to a 3rd place finish in the tourney.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is junior boys golfer, Alex Foutch. Alex has already garnered a tournament championship in 2024. He shot a 76 at Midland Golf Club, which was enough to claim the Stark County Rebel Invitational. In loaded field at the Macomb Country Club, Alex grinded his way to an 88, which was good enough to tie for 27th place out of 90 total golfers.
