The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that Illinois 8 will close Oct. 14 at the railroad crossing just south of the intersection with Knox County Highway 22 in Yates City.
The closure is necessary for the BNSF Railway to make repairs to the crossing and is expected to last until Oct. 17. Detours utilizing CH 22, Illinois 116 and Illinois 97 will be posted.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
