As today is Halloween, Monmouth Police Chief Joe Switzer reminds parents and motorists of Halloween safety tips to keep everyone safe while out trick-or-treating:

“There is going to be a lot of kids out walking around when it is getting dark out. There’s going to be a lot of parents out driving their kids around, so there will be a lot of traffic on the side streets. For the people that are driving, really pay attention to what is going on. The little kids are excited and they may not pay attention when they are crossing the street or they might run across the street in a location that is not good. As far as the people that are walking with their kids, keep them in groups, don’t let them run out into the street, have the costumes be bright colors that can be seen; make sure that the costumes aren’t so much that kids are tripping on sidewalks or falling down, just so everybody has a safe Halloween.”

Trick-or-Treat hours for the City of Monmouth is 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

Additional area trick-or-treating times are as follows:

5 to 8 pm in Galesburg

5:30 to 8 pm in Kirkwood

5:30 to 7:30 pm in Aledo

6 to 8 pm in Alexis
