Mrs. Marjorie J. “Marge” Douglas, 90, of Galesburg, Illinois died 1:40 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville, Illinois. 

She was born on June 10, 1934, in Avon, Illinois to Charles and Twylia (McNeely) Serven.  She married Donald Purchase in Avon, Illinois.  She later married Jim Douglas in Seaton, Illinois. 

Surviving are her sons, Robert (and Vicky) Purchase of Keithsburg, Illinois and Dean (and Janet) Purchase of Cameron, Illinois, three sisters, Opal Cozadd of Galesburg, Linda Johnson of Knoxville, Illinois, and Jean Norris of Lincoln, Illinois, nine grandchildren, several great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Gerald Purchase, five sisters, and a grandson, Brian Purchase. 

Marge attended school in Avon, Illinois and graduated from the Young’s Beauty School in Galesburg.  She owned and operated several businesses in Galesburg including The Golden Nugget Restaurant, Marge’s Café, Marge’s Beauty Salon, and her own ceramic shop.  She also worked for Knox College as a cashier, Bergner’s Café, and Mary and Irv’s Café.  She retired in 2008.  Marge enjoyed sewing, crocheting, baking, and cooking.  Many people will remember and miss her peanut brittle that she loved to make.  Marge’s advice for living a happy life is “don’t let anything bother you.  Whatever will be will be”.  She was proud of “being able to take care of herself all these years and live alone”.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel.  The funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at the chapel.  Cremation will follow the funeral service.  Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or National Multiple Sclerosis Society.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com
