Two requests for four-way stops have been presented to the Monmouth City Council. Following traffic studies and discussions with the Monmouth Police Department, City Council voiced their decisions, explains Communications Director Ken Helms:

“The first one was at North 5th and East Boston intersection. There is a college parking lot and there has been some speeding traffic throughout that area. After discussion, they did decide not to put a four-way stop sign there but did put yield signs to act as a traffic calming mechanism, since that was a completely uncontrolled intersection. After that we did have a four-way stop sign at North A Street and West Boston Avenue. There was a traffic study done there and it was shown that there had been thirteen different accidents within the last ten years and because of the way that there are numerous turnouts into lanes of traffic from multiple businesses and with all the additional ICS traffic and the drop offs that are predicted to be there, Council did vote to put a four-way stop sign at North A and West Boston.”

The stop signs will be put in place within the next couple of weeks.
