The Monmouth Fire Department has secured three major grants to purchase equipment and training tools, shares City of Monmouth Communications Director Ken Helms:

“The first grant was from Compeer Financial in the amount of $3,400. Captain Osborne applied for the grant to purchase new ventilation fans and gas monitors to be used for confined space rescue and other incidents that require this type of specialized ventilation. They also received a grant from the Illinois Department of Public Health to purchase new mannequins for CPR and other injuries. They got about $1,800 to purchase those. The third grant was the largest one that they received. This actually came from FEMA Fire Prevention and Safety grant. This grant is to purchase a new 27-foot fire safety trailer. That will be used by the department to educate the public on fire safety. This grant was for $224,000.”

Meanwhile, the Monmouth Police Department conducted an intruder drill for the staff and students at Harding Primary School and at The Crossing Church.
