Mr. Steven Lee “Sach” Smith, 62, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away peacefully Saturday, October 5, 2024, at his home.

Sach was born January 4, 1962, in Galesburg the son of Harold D. and Alice M. (Lewis) Smith. He married Jill Huff and later married Donna L. Beacom on March 13, 2001, in Galesburg.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Donna; his children, Jason Lee Gadbury of Ohio, Lacy Lea Smith of Cameron, Illinois and Jennifer (David) Smith-Dawson of Galesburg. Jason Wessels of Knoxville, Illinois and Nick Tiehen of Cameron.

Also surviving is his mother, Alice Smith of Galesburg; his siblings, Carol Hilten of Boynton Beach, Florida, Cindy (Robb) Downard of Berwick, Illinois, Sally (Will) Anderson of Jackson, Tennessee, Melody Karr of Abingdon, Daniel (Patty) Smith, Joe (Joyce) Smith and Mandy (Nick) Reading all of Galesburg and eight grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, Harold and his sister, Dawn Smith.

Sach was a roofer by trade working for Ron Rose Roofing in Knoxville for over 30 years. He also enjoyed his side job, operating his lawn mower repair business at his home. Sach was a lover of anything with wheels or a motor and could often be found tinkering in his shop.

Sach attended Abingdon schools and the former First Assembly of God Church in Abingdon as a child.

Sach loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was lovingly known as the family protector and will be missed greatly.

A Celebration of Sach’s Life will be held from 5:00-8:00 pm Saturday, October 12, 2024, at the New Harvest Church, 835 W. Martin Street, Abingdon, Illinois. Memorials may be offered to the funeral home to help offset funeral expenses or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services are assisting his family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
