Fresh off a huge homecoming win last weekend against the state ranked Princeton Tigers, the Monmouth-Roseville Titans would stay at home and welcome in long time rival Sherrard to Coach Dobry Field at Sunny Lane Field. Looking to once again outdo themselves for the best start to a season in Titans history, M-R would dominate the Tigers in a 69-12 romp.
The Titans would open the game with the ball first after Sherrard won the coin toss and differed to the second half. From that point the Titans were off to the races, as Andy Myers kicked off the scoring on a 44 yard QB keeper. Andrew Way would be the recipient of the next Titans touchdown, however this one came on the defensive end on a scoop and score to put Monmouth-Roseville up 14-0 early. Another quick defensive stand led to another touchdown from the M-R offense as Andy Myers long connection with Ethan Clark set up a 4 yard Payton Thompson score. Thompson was far from done in the first quarter after his first score, breaking off a 77 yard touchdown run from scrimmage, while also returning a Sherrard punt 49 yards to the house to put the Titans up 35-0 after just 12 minutes of play.
M-R would make sure the second quarter followed much of the same tone as the first. Seniors Dame Thioubou and Payton Thompson opened the period on defense by forcing another Sherrard fumble, which was recovered by defensive back Elliott Rogers and returned all the way to the goal line which would make easy work for Andrew Way who punched it in from 1 yard out to extend the Monmouth-Roseville lead. After a Tigers punt, junior Nick Huston scored on the first play of the ensuing offensive drive, while Sherrard got their first points on the board on a touchdown pass from Garrett Woodward to Harrison Curry from 8 out to cut the Titans lead to 49-6. Two more scores from Monmouth-Roseville would push them past the 60 point mark, a Sam Bennett 79 yard kickoff and a 5 yard touchdown run from Elijah Noel, set up by an interception and long return by Elliott Rogers gave the Titans a 62-12 lead after a late half 57 yard touchdown run by Sherrard’s Lane Luxmore.
A high scoring first half from the Titans would make for a very quick second half, with a running clock enforced in the second. The Titans were able to add on another touchdown in the form of a quarterback keeper from freshman Keegan Smith, putting the capper on a 69-12 win for the Titans. In the stat book for Monmouth-Roseville, Payton Thompson led the way rushing with 96 yards and 2 scores on the ground. Andy Myers completed his lone pass attempt for 35 yards to Ethan Clark, while placekicker Ivan Godina booted through 9 extra points to aid Monmouth-Roseville in their cruise to victory. The 6-0, number 6 state ranked Titans will now take a trip to Spring Valley Hall next Friday, before returning for one final home regular season game against the Rockridge Rockets on senior night on October 18th.
