The United Red Storm volleyball team is on the verge of yet another 20-win season. Minus the covid-shortened season of 2020, that would make an amazing 20 years in a row. The Red Storm ended their regular season on Wednesday night with a Lincoln Trail Conference road win over Princeville. The victory gave United a record of (9-2) in LTC play, good enough to tie Knoxville for 2nd place in the conference. Both schools were one game behind a very solid Wethersfield squad. The Red Storm have ran off five straight wins and have victories in 6 of their last 7, including a 3-set win over Knoxville during that stretch. United is still two wins away from the magic 20-win mark at (18-14) overall. In order to get that 20th win, the Red Storm will have to make it to the championship game of the Abingdon-Avon regional tournament. United Athletic Director Jeremy Sharp says the streak is pretty impressive.
The regional gets underway on Monday, beginning with West Central and West Prairie playing at 6:00. Tuesday’s quarterfinals features United taking on BPC at 6:00, followed by ROWVA/Williamsfield and A-Town. The winners of those matches will play on Wednesday in the 2nd semifinal at 7:00. The first semifinal on Wednesday has top-seed Brimfield playing the winner of West Central and West Prairie. The championship match is set for 6:00 on Thursday.
