On November 16th at 9 am, the Director of the VA in Chicago will make a presentation at the Monmouth American Legion on the PACT Act, including the expansion of available health care and benefits for veterans and their families, reports Finance Officer of the Monmouth American Legion Cheri Stanton:
“Georgeanne Calloway, who is the Director of the VA in Chicago, she is coming down to start a new program for rural areas. She wanted to get to some of the guys and gals that have more mobile problems, there are either handicapped with canes or wheelchairs, and she is going to do a little seminar about the new PACT Act. Since last October, the VA has opened up all kinds of things, if you were stationed in other places that you would be able to get benefits for. There has been a lot of people who applied for VA benefits, but they were not qualified for those. The American Legion has worked really hard to get this PACT Act going.”
Meanwhile, the monthly soup suppers are back at the Monmouth American Legion the first Monday of each month from 5 to 6:30 pm. As always, the Legion hosts a Hamburger Fry on Saturdays from 11 am to 1pm and recently as part of their service to the community, members of the Monmouth American Legion conducted a presentation to 3rd graders in the United School District on how to properly fold and respecting the American Flag.
