Week 6 of the IHSA Football Season Holds Potential Playoff/Conference Clinch Scenarios

Share

Week 6 of the local high school football season could see a few teams lock up a playoff berth and others could get a step closer to that goal. The Monmouth-Roseville Titans are one of the former. After getting a 31-3 program-statement win over, at the time, class 3A third-ranked Princeton to get to (5-0), the Titans host a desperate (2-3) Sherrard Tiger ballclub that need to win three of their final four games to get into the postseason. Monmouth-Roseville could clinch at least tie for the TRAC Mississppi Division championship with a win. After an (0-3) start to the season, Sherrard has won their last two games over the Spring Valley Hall/Putnam County co-op and Mendota. The Tigers end the season with the game in Monmouth tonight, at home vs. Kewanee next Friday and Orion and Riverdale in weeks eight and nine, respectively. Monmouth-Roseville head coach Jeremy Adolphson says his team knows there’s no let up after the big win in week 5.

The Titans and Tigers kickoff at 7:00 and you can hear it on Sunny 97.7 WMOI, online at radiomonmouth.com on our our free 97.7 WMOI app for your smartphone or tablet. The pregame show starts at 6:35.

The United Red Storm and Abingdon-Avon Tornadoes play each other at Abingdon-Avon High School tonight for the Tornado’s homecoming game. Both teams need a win, with the Red Storm searching for their first win of the season and the Tornadoes looking for win number two. United has played a strong schedule in the first of the season with each of the five teams being over .500, having postseason aspirations and a combined record of (18-7). Red Storm head coach Andrew Goodwin says despite the tough start, his kids are resilient.

The A-Town Tornadoes are (1-4) but have played solid football, for the most part. Several of those five games have been within a touchdown or two at the halftime break. The Tornadoes have been decent on offense, but have been plagued defensively by some bad luck…..both by their own doing and quality opponents. Head coach Rick Quinn says they’ve been close to a number of wins, but haven’t cashed those opportunities in.

The Tornadoes and Red Storm kickoff at 7:00 tonight on AM 1330/FM 95.7 WRAM.
