In front of a raucous Homecoming crowd last night Friday night, the West Central Heat 8-man football team lit up the scoreboard in a win over Bushnell-Prairie City. The Heat scored a consolidated chool-record 80 points in the 80-34 win over the Spartans. Freshman running back Graham Kelly rushed for 275 yards on 25 carries, taking five of those carries into the endzone. That’s the second time Kelly has scored five touchdowns in a game this season. On his weekly Coach’s Corner inteview on the Wednesday WRAM Morning Show, head coach Jason Kirby was quick to praise the offensive line for the success of his team’s running game, but was also even more appreciative of the atmosphere the Heat fans provided on Friday night. It was the first home game for the Heat after oddly playing the first five games of the season on the road.
The Heat will take on the (4-2) Flanagan/Cornell/Woodland co-op on Friday night at West Central High School just outside of Biggsville. The junior varsity game that was scheduled before the varsity kickoff has been canceled, so it will be a varsity-only night starting at 7:00.
