Galesburg Police Conduct Crash & DUI Arrest

On Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at approximately 9:10 pm a Galesburg Police officer conducted a stop on a bicyclist in the area of Ella St. and Lincoln St. for riding at night without a light.  A gold minivan crashed into the rear of the squad car and then fled the scene southbound on Lincoln.

The officer chased the subject in an attempt to get the vehicle stopped.  The vehicle fled from the officer south onto Day St. and then west onto E Berrien St. The vehicle ran off the roadway and struck a utility pole in the area of Berrien St. and Churchill Ave.  

The driver was found to be Cody A Sibley, age 27.  Cody Sibley was arrested at the scene and transported to the Galesburg Police Department for processing.  At the police department, Cody Sibley was found to have a blood alcohol concentration of .198% well over the .08% legal limit.

Cody A Sibley was taken to the Knox County Jail and booked for:

Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol
Reckless Driving
Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding
Operation of a Vehicle with Suspended Registration
Possession of Open Cannabis in a Vehicle
Numerous other traffic charges

Chief Russell Idle stated “intoxicated drivers pose a significant threat to the safety of our residents and our officers are committed to identifying those drivers and taking them into custody.”

The vehicle crash was investigated by the Knox County Sheriff’s office as it involved a Galesburg Police Vehicle.

Due to the requirements of the Illinois pretrial fairness act, Cody Sibley was booked into the jail and released.
