Laura M. Simpson, age 63, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 9:50 AM on Monday, November 11, 2024 at St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois. She was born December 8, 1960 in Monmouth, Illinois, the daughter of Helen Christine Bertelsen. Laura and raised and educated in Monmouth, graduating from Monmouth High School with the Class of 1979. On May 21, 1994, she married Delbert Simpson, Sr. in Roseville, Illinois and he preceded her in death on June 5, 2023.

Laura worked at Community Memorial Hospital in Monmouth for over 25 years in the dietary department. She later worked at Monmouth Nursing Home in their dietary department until her retirement. Laura enjoyed traveling, taking long car rides, cooking, crafting, and collecting anything Coca-Cola. Mostly, she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Laura is survived by two daughters, Erin Richey of Galesburg, Illinois and Trina Richey of Roseville, Illinois, two sons, Trent (Amber) Richey of Roseville, Illinois and LaVal Simpson of Bloomington, Illinois. Laura is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parent, her husband, two brothers, one granddaughter Jaylene Adams, and one grandson, Zachary Simpson.

As were Laura’s wishes, cremation is being accorded. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Memorials may be made to Special Olympics. Interment will be planned for a later date.
