With the 2024 General Election now in the rearview mirror, the focus turns to the Consolidated Election in April of 2025, which contains local races, shares Warren County Republican Party Chair Brenda Morrison:

“One thing that has come to by attention is we are really short on people in the townships, to be on township Board of Trustees, township supervisor positions, and clerk positions, there is also the road commissioner. Those people are not put on the ballot by primary, so the April 1st Consolidated Election will have those who were chosen at caucus. It is one of the few times that we still have caucus in Illinois and that is for townships. December 3rd is the township caucus. I would encourage anyone to go to warrencountyil.gov; they can find out who their township supervisor currently is and find out about going to meetings and they can also go to their caucus. They can find out what time that is. Every township has a caucus, a republican and a democratic caucus, on December 3rd.”

Getting more people involved in local government has become a hot topic and not to be so party focused when electing local officials, comments Warren County Democratic Party Chair Steve Buban:

“Just not enough people, especially young people, are interested in getting involved in local politics in particular. I think we have a bias for just paying attention to the state and national elections, especially in years like this. It is something we need to work on, focus a little more on local. We know the local issues are important, obviously. The republicans I think have a much longer history of working hard on those kinds of positions. To be a good road commissioner, it doesn’t matter what party you are, getting the snow off the roads is what is important. I’d say that is true about a lot of these other jobs, like County Clerk, and all these local ones. They are defined as political jobs, the ones that are elected, but it is true that we should be able to cross over, and we do, I think, in that respect.”

Caucus day for the local townships in Warren County is December 3rd. Consolidated Election Day is April 1st, 2025.
