Monmouth-Roseville Titan Girls Basketball “Standard is the Standard”

The Monmouth-Roseville girls basketball team got their season off to a great start with a resounding 79-25 win over Galva on Monday night at the ROWVA/Williamsfield-Ridgewood Thanksgiving Tournament. The Titan led at the half 43-21 and then outscored the Wildcats 30-4 in the 3rd quarter to take a 73-25 lead into a 4th quarter runnning clock situation. Leading the way for Monmouth-Roseville was Brianna Woodard. Despite not playing much of the 4th quarter, Woodard poured in a school record 41 points. Fellow senior Tatianna Talivaa contributed 20 points, as well. Minus the covid-shortened season in 2020-21, Monmouth-Roseville has won at least 21 games each season since head coach Scott Weber’s second season beginning in 2019. That run included the program’s first regional title in a 26-win season in 2023. Before taking over for former head coach Jim Cole in 2018, Weber had been the Monmouth-Roseville junior varsity coach since 2006. He says that while a small high school basketball talent pool can by cyclical at times, one thing that can never waiver is effort put forth by the players. Something that he holds his girls accountable for.

The Titan girls get back on the floor tonight to end the pool play portion of their ROWVA/Williamsfield-Ridgewood Thanksgiving Tournament. Monmouth-Roseville will take on a familiar opponent in the Rockridge Rockets at Alwood High School in Woodhull at 6:00. The Rockets also beat Galva in their first pool play game, 68-36. The winner of tonight’s game between the Titans and Rockets will win the pool and take a top-seed into Friday night’s semifinals in Woodhull. The championship of the tournament will be on Saturday night at 5:30, also in Woodhull.
