The United Board of Education is preparing to vote on next year’s tax levy, which Superintendent Tom Hawkins says has resulted in the need to schedule a Truth and Taxation hearing:

“The local EAV in the part of the state has continued to rise and so I think it is important to share that we are going to need to have a Truth and Taxation hearing, not because we are raising rates, but because EAV has risen enough that it has went over the statutory limit of when you have to hold a Truth and Taxation hearing. So, I want to point out that the United District is not raining the rate, our taxing rate, it is just that our local property values are going up and as a result, we need to have that Truth and Taxation hearing. I provided three different scenarios of modest EAV growth or seven percent, ten percent, and I did a twelve percent.”

United’s Truth and Taxation hearing will be held on December 12th at 6 pm, followed by the Board of Education’s regular monthly meeting.
