The 2024 football season for the West Central Heat 8-man team came to an end last Saturday after falling to Amboy/LaMoille/Ohio in the first round of the playoffs in Biggsville by a score of 54-0. The meeting between these two teams in the postseason is not a new feat as they have met each other the past two seasons with West Central winning the 8-man state championship in 2022 and Amboy claiming the title last year. This year, the two met in the first round. Head Coach Jason Kirby says the team fought hard all season:

“Our kids gave what they had. Our kids were excited about playing, we just played a darn good team. Sometimes you have to realize that we went 6-3, we had a great regular season, our kids played their butts off, made great memories, but we ran into an absolute good team. They are going to be a really tough out for whoever gets to play them the rest of the way.”

The West Central Heat ended their 8-man football season with a record of 6-4. Quarterfinals of 8-man high school football continue this weekend. With Amboy advancing to the Elite Eight, they host the Martinsville Bluestreaks on Saturday. In other 8-man Quarterfinal action, St. Anne is at Pawnee, West Carroll travels to Polo, and Ridgewood hosts Milledgeville.
