Western Illinois University Football wrapped up its first season under Head Coach Joe Davis on Saturday with a home win over Gardner-Webb. Davis’ first year at the helm of Leatherneck Football, and the team’s first year in the Big South-Ohio Valley Conference, established the program as an offensive powerhouse in the conference.

Dominating the leader board, the team finished the regular season as #1 in the conference in the following categories:

  • Total Offense;
  • Offensive Touchdowns;
  • First Downs;
  • Third-Down Conversions;
  • Passing Offense; and
  • Offensive Efficiency

Nationally, the team finished the regular season ranked #6 in Passing Offense and tied for #9 in First Downs, solidifying their reputation as a force to be reckoned with.

The Leathernecks also had two student-athletes finishing the regular season as #1 in individual conference statistical categories. Senior quarterback Nathan Lamb had a standout season, leading the Big South-OVC in total offense, passing efficiency, and quarterback rushing yards. On the national stage, Lamb ranked #7 in Passing Yards, #10 in Points Responsible For, and an incredible #2 in Total Offense.

Additionally, junior wide receiver Matt Henry also showcased his elite skills, finishing #1 in the Big South-OVC in Receiving Yards and an impressive #3 in the same category nationally. His contributions were pivotal in the team’s offensive success.

The team’s four wins this year are the most since 2018. The Leathernecks will look to build on the offensive foundation set this season as they look forward to next year.
