Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending Nov. 3, 2024:
The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is junior football player, Andrew Way. Andrew Way was all over the field in a first round playoff game against Paxton-Buckley-Loda. He tied for a team-high 9 tackles, with 8 of those being solo stops. For the season, Andrew was the top tackler on the squad with 74, with 12 of those going for losses.
The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is senior volleyball player, Ava Anderson. Ava was a force at the net in two regional wins last week. She had team-highs in kills and blocks with 13 and 4, respectively. Ava also contributed at the service line, garnering 3 timely aces.
The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior volleyball player, Harlee Hainds. Harlee controlled the net in a big way in a regional first round win against West Prairie. She hammered 6 kills and had 3 blocks in the victory. Harlee, who recently made a verbal committment to Sandburg College, also hustled her way to 10 digs.
The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is sophomore volleyball player, Evelin Guel. Evelin handed out 13 assists in a regional quarterfinal win over Peoria. She also contributed 2 service aces and 3 digs in the victory. Evelin led Streaks in assists for the season with a game-high of 15 earlier in the year.
The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is freshman cross country runner, James Shuey. James was the highest finishing Tornado runner in the regional race run at Donovan Park in Peoria, placing 48th. He finished less than a minute out of a sectional qualifying spot. Earlier this season, James placed 15th in the Lincoln Trail Conference championship meet.
