Get Your Vehicle Prepared for Winter Driving

With the anticipated colder temperatures ahead, now is the time to prepare those vehicles for winter driving, reminds Warren County Sheriff Martin Edwards:

“Now is a very good time to check your car over, make sure your antifreeze protections are at the right level, make sure the tires are up, and make sure you have everything you need in your car, the jack, the lug nut wrench, and all your fluid levels are correct. Batteries, that is another big one, because when it gets cold those batteries get sluggish. That is your protection from point a to point b, so make sure it is ready to go. It is a good idea to stock some heavy clothes in your car, a blanket, make sure you have all that. A good survival kit would include some food and water, a candle to stay warm with, which inside a car you should be fine. If you are stuck out there, it is a little tough because you still have to get out once in a while to make sure the snow hasn’t accumulated underneath that exhaust pipe. Be prepared when you go out and of course the best defense is to not travel if you don’t have to.”

Sheriff Edwards also reminds motorists to slow down and pump those breaks when approaching intersections to prevent sliding into additional motorists.
