Glenn R. Bailey, 83, of Monmouth, IL, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2024 at the Monmouth Nursing Home.

Glenn was born December 11, 1941 in Monmouth, the son of Howard Raymond and Mary Margaret (Laughead) Bailey. He was raised and educated in Alexis, IL, graduating from Alexis High School in 1960. He later served his construction apprenticeship with his uncle, Lewis Laughead.

Glenn married Kay Swanson on August 7, 1966 in North Henderson, IL and she survives.

Glenn worked his entire adult life in construction, building and remodeling houses. He began his career with Laughead and Bailey Construction, building his first house in 1966. He later owned and operated Bailey Construction for several years, retiring in 2005.

He really enjoyed playing golf. He also loved fishing and mushroom hunting with his family. Glenn was known to say, “Act like you’ve got a few brains.” He was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Survivors include his wife, Kay Bailey of Monmouth; his children, Glenna C. Bailey of Gilbert, AZ and Ryan R. Bailey of Tempe, AZ, numerous nieces and nephews, including Terry Bailey of Alexis, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers, Milo Bailey, Chauncey Bailey, Allen Bailey, Larry Bailey, Roger Bailey, and 1 sister, Nancy Bailey.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am. Friday, December 27, 2024 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Interment will be at Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 am, Friday morning at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Alexis Cemetery Association or St. Jude Children’s Hospital and sent to the funeral home.
