Mr. Kenneth S. Hawkinson, 81, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away at 7:30 am Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Seminary Manor.

Ken was born November 4, 1943, in Los Angeles, California, the son of K. Stuart and Janet E. (Johnson) Hawkinson. He married the love of his life, Phyllis Ann Short, on August 10, 1968, in South Holland, Illinois. She preceded him in death on May 28, 2021, after almost 53 years of marriage.

Ken is survived by two daughters, Diane Elizabeth (Justin) Underwood of Sandy, Oregon and Christine Marie Swanson of Ormond Beach, Florida; his brother, Charles E. Hawkinson of Galesburg; four grandchildren, Nathan D. Churchill, Marion E. Laraby, Lahna V. Glenn and Elissa “Evie” V. Swanson. He is preceded in death by his wife, his parents and a granddaughter, Seraphin Swanson.

Ken graduated from Galesburg High School in 1961 and attended North Park College. He served in the Army National Guard from 1964-1970. Ken began working for Northern Electric in Chicago, he later worked for Prudential and Knox Office Equipment. He also worked as supervisor and a lab technician at Gates Rubber Company and retired in 2004 after 18 years.

Ken was an active member of the Covenant Church. He enjoyed a round of golf with his golfing league buddies at Lake Bracken Country Club. Ken also was an avid Chicago Cub fan and Chicago Bear fan.

Visitation is scheduled for 10:00-11:00 am Friday, December 6, 2024, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services. Services will follow at 11:00 am at the chapel with Rev. Tom Ek officiating. The burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Covenant Church. Online condolences may be offered at www.h-p-w.com.
