Mr. Lindell C. “Chuck” Benson, 81, of Knoxville, Illinois passed away at 7:50 pm, Monday, December 2, 2024, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

Chuck was born on October 30, 1943, in Potosi, Missouri, the son of Samuel H. and Pearl L. (Farris) Benson. He attended schools in Missouri and later enlisted in the US Navy. He served on USS Enterprise during the Vietnam War as a Navy Seal.

Chuck married Janetta K. VanBeveran on January 5, 1991, in Galesburg, she survives in Knoxville. Also surviving are his children, Chuck Benson and Bruce Benson both of White Hall, Illinois and Bud (Sherry) Benson of Oneida, Illinois, Michael and Mack Joseph both of Galesburg and Mandi Hunziker of Galesburg; his brother, James “Buck” Benson of Abingdon, Illinois; two sisters, Helen Borcky of Wisconsin and Wanda Bloomer of Maquon, Illinois; fifteen grandchildren, including Misti Ainsworth whom he raised and many great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Peggy Hardister, Carol Boatman and Barbara Ingram.

Chuck was known as a hard worker, working for Butler Manufacturing for over 40 years. He had a love for the great outdoors, fishing, hunting, camping, 4-wheeling with the grandkids and riding his Harley. His favorite time was spent with his family, visiting or playing poker or rummy.

Chuck’s wishes were to be cremated. A Celebration of his life will be celebrated at a later date at the Knoxville Legion Post 749. Memorials may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is assisting his family with arrangements. Online condolences may be offered at www.h-p-w.com
