The Monmouth-Roseville Titans boys’ basketball team continued their stretch of home games on Tuesday night in a battle with the Canton Little Giants from the Shoebox of Monmouth-Roseville High School. Looking to build off the momentum of a big win over Knoxville, the Titans battled for a tough 53-48 win in a back and forth game.
Monmouth-Roseville jumped out to the early lead in the first quarter, pilling up a 14-5 lead off the back of multiple free throw shots from Nick Huston and a three ball from Ethan Clark. Canton was able to close out the quarter strong however, as a buzzer beating three from Senior Logan Nichols put the Little Giants within 6 at the close of quarter #1. The second quarter would be largely taken over by Ethan Clark and Logan Nichols, as both players knocked down multiple threes, but after three triples from Clark the Titans would extend their lead to 30-22 heading into the halftime break. A strong third quarter from Andy Myers would keep the Titans in front heading into the final quarter of play, as he scored 6 points, 4 of which coming from the free throw line and the other coming on a tough take to the basket as the Titans took a 38-31 lead into the final 8 minutes of play.
Quarter four would be see Canton cutting the Titans lead down to the closest it has been in the game, as the Little Giants saw themselves down by just 2 points midway through the final quarter, however Cee Sarcomo’s 6 points, and clutch free throws from Lars Bergren and Andy Myers would put this one away, giving the Titans a gritty 53-48 win to improve their overall record to 4-4. In the stat book for the Titans, Ethan Clark and Andy Myers both had 14 to lead M-R, while Nick Huston also crossed double figures with 10. Monmouth-Roseville will play in their third game of the week on Friday night, getting back on the road with a game against TRAC-West rival Mercer County, a team they saw just a few weeks ago at the Orion Tip-Off Classic.
