The tobacco ordinance in the City of Monmouth has been changed to correlate with the State of Illinois, explains Monmouth Police Chief Joe Switzer:
“We brought the city ordinance up to date as far as the age of persons being able to possess tobacco, which is 21. Previously the ordinance said it was 18, state law since then changed so it is 21 now. No person under 21 can purchase or possess any tobacco products, any alternative nicotine product, electronic cigarettes or vaping device, as defined in the Illinois statue. The definition of the statue encompasses the cartridges that go into the vaping devices too.”
The City of Monmouth tobacco ordinance was voted on at the October 21st City Council meeting.
