The (8-1) United Red Storm Girls Basketball team is having a great start to the season and picked up two solid wins last week, beating Knoxville 39-38 and Rockridge 48-24. Tomorrow night, the Red Storm girls will travel to (6-2) Brimfield for a non-conference matchup, who also happens to be the team that knocked the Red Storm out of regional action last season in a very close game. Head Coach Chris Olson says the team looks to keep their balanced scoring efforts and strong defense going:
“The balanced scoring thing, that has definitely been a theme for us this year, everybody is just ready to step up when the moment calls for them to do so, that has been really good so far. It’s not putting too much pressure on any one person to have to do everything each night, it should help with game planning purposes as far making it tougher on the other teams to key in on one person. Obviously, it is one of those things too where not everybody is going to be on every night, so we need people ready to step up and offset things. If somebody is cold, we need someone to get hot and so far that has been going pretty well. Then defensively, that continues to be our foundation, the thing we hang out hat on. The girls continue to be bought into that and are bringing good energy there and continue to use that as our springboard in games to make sure we get off to a good start. If we are struggling offensively, that is the thing that keeps us afloat.”
The Red Storm Girls Basketball team get right back on the court this Saturday with the start of the United Holiday Tournament, taking on Farmington and Payson-Seymour at United High School.
