Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending Dec. 8, 2024:
The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week. This week the spotlight shines on freshman girls basketball player, Layla Katile. Layla was a big part of two important division wins last week. She averaged 17.5 points and 11.5 rebounds. Layla was also a force on the defensive end, getting 2.5 blocks per game.
The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week. This week the spotlight shines on senior girls basketball player, Katie Flynn. Katie filled up the stat sheet in three big wins last week. She averaged 7 points, 4 rebounds and dished out 2.5 assists. Katie was also a menace on defense, getting 2 steals in each of the three games.
The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week. This week the spotlight shines on the Heat Boys Bowling Team. Despite placing 18th as a team at a very strong tournament, Ernesto Andrade, Kaleb Kirkpatrick, Spencer Livermore, Ethan Nichols, Harry Waugh and Lucas Wood were awarded the Sportsmanship Award at the 16th Annual Abe Lincoln Invitational.
The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week. This week the spotlight shines on senior boys wrestler, Larry Randolph. Larry brought home some hardware in his first tournament of the season. He placed first in the 285 pound weight class at the 46th Annual Carson DeJarnatt Tournament in Sterling. Larry went (2-0), gaining both victories by pins.
The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week. This week the spotlight shines on junior girls bowler, Alyssa Barry. Alyssa was her team’s top finisher at the 16th Annual Abe Lincoln Tournament in Springfield. She rolled a 6-game total of 884, which was good enough for 42nd place in an 18-team tourney. Alyssa had a single-game high of 180.
