January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month. The Knox County Health Department is a lead agency for the Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer program, offering treatment to eligible women residing in Knox, Warren, and Henderson Counties, explains Client Community Engagement Specialist Michelle Rickard:

“For women ages 21 to 64, we can provide pap tests and pelvic exams. For women 40 to 64, we can provide breast exams and mammograms. How this program helps our community is that there are so many people who do just not have health insurance and if you need to get a screening and you do not have health insurance, we just want you to know that we can provide help to get these very important screenings. Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer programs serve Knox, Warren, and Henderson Counties. We can also help with people that have a high deductible. If your insurance covers a mammogram, and you get called back for that secondary exam, this program can actually cover any of the deductible or out of pocket expenses should you be called back for that secondary exam.”

To schedule screenings with the Knox County Health Department, call 309-344-2224.
