Over the last 50 years, the Master Gardener program with the University of Illinois Extension has been offering participants gardening knowledge and volunteering opportunities. Chris Enroth, Horticulture Educator with Extension says this hybrid horticulture crash course will kick off on February 4th.

“We are going to spend about nine to ten weeks covering all of the topics in horticulture. We will start with botany, then dig into the soil, and then talk about trees, shrubs, flowers, vegetables, diseases, and insects. I mean, like people should have a bachelor’s degree after they come through these 10 weeks.”

Enroth adds that the main purpose of the course is to help people see what resources are out there.

“We’re not necessarily trying to, you know, test people and try to keep them from succeeding. We want to make sure that they know where all the resources and tools are for their guardian knowledge.”

To sign up for the Master Gardener program, contact your local Extension office.
