To the citizens of Warren County, I, Steve Thompson, am announcing my candidacy for the Republican nomination for Warren County Sheriff in 2026. I have strong connections to Warren County. I was born and raised here, graduating from Roseville High School in 1996. My wife and I chose to settle in Warren County and raise our children here. It is very important to me that this community remain a safe place for our people to live, work, and raise their own families. It has been my honor to serve the people of this community as a law enforcement officer for over twenty years.

After receiving an education at Carl Sandburg College and Monmouth College, I began my law enforcement career in 2001, serving as a police officer near Chicago in Cary, IL. Passionate about small communities, I returned to the area and served as the police officer for the nearby community of Avon, IL. In Avon, I enjoyed getting to know the residents personally and made many connections within the community. In 2004, I accepted a position in Warren County as a police officer for the city of Monmouth. This April, I will have served Monmouth and the citizens of Warren County for 21 years.

I understand the value of communication and cooperation with other agencies and have often been called to assist in emergency situations in neighboring communities. I stay up-to-date on new laws, maintain certifications, and receive consistent and continuing training in law enforcement techniques. I am constantly seeking ways to improve relationships between law enforcement and our community.

As previously stated, my wife and I chose to settle in Warren County and raise our children here. Like me, my wife, Kim, is passionate about serving the community and is active within the United School District. We have three children and are grateful for the quality education they receive at United.

As Sheriff of Warren County I will focus on increasing school safety, working closely with district Superintendents. Cybercrime is a significant and growing threat, and as Sheriff I will focus on protecting and making our citizens aware of online and telecommunication scams. Finally, in all ways, I will protect the Constitution of the United States of America.

As Warren County Sheriff it would be my honor to protect and serve this county and its citizens. I would appreciate your support.

Sincerely,
Steve Thompson
