At the recent United Board of Education meeting, the Board voted and approved United’s involvement in a joint effort across the state of Illinois in Vision 2030, created to foster collaboration and unity among education organizations in fulfilling the promise of public education. United Superintendent Tom Hawkins explains the key priorities of Vision 2030:
“A few years ago, there was Vision 2020 and the big push behind Vision 2020 was to help push through Evidence Based Funding, but now there is Vision 2030. It has four main priorities, which are promote future driven schools that allow for college and career exploration for our students, we want to continue to enhance student safety and well-being, attract and retain high quality and diverse educated pipeline, and promote curriculum and instructional flexibility to meet the needs of our local communities. That is so important because a lot of times when there is legislation that is passed in Springfield, it is not necessarily tailored to downstate Illinois. So, one of the things that Vision 2030 is looking at these mandates, what are essential mandates, and which should be considered optional.”
Superintendent Hawkins informs another major point of Vision 2030 is to make sure the Evidence Based Funding in schools is not lost.
