For this academic year, the staff at West Central, along with the Board of Education, have put a focus on acknowledging the positives happening within the district. As a way to recognize teachers and staff members, Superintendent Stacey Day shares they have launched a Staff Rise and Shine Acknowledgment opportunity:

“We started a new Rise and Shine Award, Acknowledgment piece. One of our focuses this year with our staff has really been trying to focus on the positives and bring that energy in what you are doing. We have talked a lot as a Board and administrators on how to acknowledge our people for the hard work they are doing. We have an opportunity on our website for families and community members to acknowledge staff that have done great things for their kids or families and so we were trying to find a way for us to do that internally. What we came up with was this Rise and Shine Award. Every month I send out a Google form to the staff; as administrators and Board members, we can’t see everything, they see all the stuff that we don’t see, so this is their chance to give a shoutout to a colleague going above and beyond, doing those little things that we just don’t always see. This was our first month with it. We had seventeen different staff members nominate for all kinds of things.”

In other good news items for the West Central School District, two students were named Illinois State Scholars, Kevin DeMent and Rozella Liggett.
