The Monmouth College Fighting Scots men’s basketball team wrapped up their regular season with a win over Grinnell College on Saturday after their senior day festivities. The Scots ended the regular season with their school-record tying 20th victory against just five losses and finished at (14-2) in the Midwest Conference. That’s an amazing 3 games ahead of second place Grinnell. By winning the Midwest Conference, Monmouth will host the conference championship tournament on Friday and Saturday at Glennie Gym in the Huff Athletic Center. The top-seeded Fighting Scots will play the 4th seeded Lake Forest Foresters in the second semifinal at around 7:00, following the 2nd seeded Grinnell Pioneers and 3rd seed Illinois College Blueboys game that starts at 5:00. Also in the win over Grinnell on Saturday, United High School graduate and Monmouth College senior Declan Flynn became the first player in school history to play in 99 career games as he moved past Paul Engo and Will Jones into first place in games played.

Other local Fighting Scots athletes also had great weekends, as the Midwest Conference Swimming Championship meet took place at Grinnell College and the Scots baseball season got underway on Sunday. Here’s Monmouth College Sports Information Director Nathan Baliva with an update on our Monmouth-area athletes.

We’ll have the Monmouth College men’s basketball Midwest Conference Tournament semifinal on the Prairie Communications sports Network on Friday night. Our AM 1330/FM 95.7 WRAM pregame show will start at around 6:40, following the completion of the first semifinal of the night. You can also hear it online at radiomonmouth.com and on our free 1330 WRAM app for your smartphone or tablet.
