It’s regional championship night for girls high school basketball around the state of Illinois. We’ll have a pair of those games on the PCSN on Thursday night. The United Red Storm take on their Lincoln Trail Conference counterparts, the Wethersfield Flying Geese, at Williamsfield High School at 6:00. The (28-4) Red Storm have played the (25-5) Flying Geese twice this season, with Wethersfield getting wins both times. The most recent meeting was in the semifinal of the LTC Tournament on Feb. 8th. The Geese get a 12-point victory in that one at home. The two schools also matched up on January 27th, again at Wethersfield High School. Wethersfield wins that meeting in much closer fashion, by 3. United head coach Chris Olson breaks down what his ballclub has to do tonight to avoid a 3rd loss to the Flying Geese.

You can hear this game on Sunny 97.7 WMOI. It will tip-off at 6:00, therefore our WMOI pregame show will hit the air at 5:40.

Our second game on the PCSN on Friday originates from Orion High School. The 2A championship in Orion also features two teams that know each other very well. The Monmouth-Roseville Titans and Sherrard Tigers met in TRAC West Division play twice, with the Tigers coming out on top in both contests. Sherrard won the first game at Monmouth-Roseville 58-48 on January 6th and followed that up with a win two weeks ago on February 6th, 53-49 at Sherrard. Both teams got off to slow starts in their semifinal games on Monday but pulled through. Sherrard struggled with Rockridge before hanging on late in a 36-33 win. The Titans held Kewanee to 10 second half points on their way to a much easier 66-37 win. Monmouth-Roseville head coach said his ballclub is ready for a very physical 32 minutes of basketball, which is how this match up has been played for the last several years.

You can catch this game on the radio at AM 1330/FM 95.7 WRAM. Both games can also be heard online at radiomonmouth.com or right from the bleachers with a pair of ear buds. Download our free 97.7 WMOI and/or 1330 WRAM from you Google Play or Apple App Stores.
