Boley, Men’s 4×100 Relay Pick up Wins at Redbird Challenge

The Monmouth College men’s and women’s track and field teams opened the outdoor season this weekend with the two-day Redbird Challenge hosted by Illinois State University. The meet included Division I programs like host ISU, Marquette, Bradley, Iowa, Valparaiso and UW-Milwaukee in addition to Division II and Division III programs.

MEN

The men’s 4×100 relay team won the event with a time of 41.89 seconds, just outside the top 10 times in school history. Johnny York (Elmwood, Illinois), Janius Taylor (Lakeland, Florida), Da’Von Patterson (Ponte Vedra, Florida) and Kani Carson (Lincoln, Illinois) combined to win the event. Patterson and Carson joined Adrian Outlaw (Galesburg, Illinois) and Patrick Curry (Chicago, Illinois) to finish fourth in the 4x400m relay in 3:27.37.

Taylor finished fourth in the 200m race in 21.87 seconds while Peter Soutsos (Highland Park, Illinois) was fifth in the 400m hurdles in 1:05.12.

Tashawn Ruffin (Bloomington, Illinois) finished second in the triple jump at 13.67m.

Shane Anderson (Lisle, Illinois) was fourth in the hammer throw on Friday at 52.54m. Gunner Bryant (Curryville, Missouri) was sixth in the discus at 42.62m and Colton Hutson (Mount Pleasant, Iowa) was seventh in the javelin at 44.88m. Blake Orwig (Wyoming, Illinois) took eighth in the shot put at 13.77m

WOMEN

Maddie Boley (Beecher, Illinois) won the shot put on Saturday at 12.60m. She also took second in the discus with the third-best throw in school history at 46.59m. Boley took third overall and second among D3 throwers in the hammer throw on Friday with a toss of 48.02m.

Kayla Braun (Evansville, Illinois) was fourth in the shot put at 11.55m and seventh in the discus at 38.81m. Jillian Toth (El Paso, Illinois) finished sixth in the shot put at 11.20m. She was also fourth in the hammer at 47.62m and Abbie Johnson (LaHarpe, Illinois) made the finals with a PR of 39.76 to finish ninth.
