Since the approval from the Monmouth City Council, Sarah Walters has been fundraising for her proposed Maple Leaf Sculpture to be placed in Downtown Monmouth. Sarah explains she is working with a local artist:

“Since we are in the middle of a reconstructive Downtown Beautification project, I thought it would be a fun time for us to spruce up the center square as well. We are the Maple City. That is who we are. We are branded that way when you come into town. I thought it would be a fun way to put our mark on downtown. It passed City Council, so it is a go. I am working with a local artist. His name is Gabe Stevens. He is an amazing artist. He is a welder and is going to be the one to head up this project. There really won’t be a lot of maintenance, which is great. It will be an LED lit sign at night, just a little bit of power to keep that leaf spinning in the middle, and then the flowers I am hoping since there is already a water source there, I can tap into that and maybe even have some sort of a sprinkler system to always keep it maintained.”

Sarah has partnered with the Galesburg Community Foundation to establish a Maple City Beautification Fund for this project.
