On the April 1st Consolidated Election ballot, one of the proposition questions for voters states that ‘in addition to school facility purposes, shall Warren County school districts be authorized to use revenues from the tax commonly referred to as the school facility tax that is currently imposed in Warren County at a rate of one percent for school resource officers and mental health professionals.’ Monmouth-Roseville Superintendent Ed Fletcher explains what this proposition means if passed:
“We have a question on the ballot that basically says to the constituents of Warren County to give us permission to use facilities tax funds to hire a mental health professional and/or school resource officer. The nuisance behind it is when Warren County passed that facilities tax back in 2011, it was used for certain things, specifically surrounding facilities, but in 2019, that law changed to expand its’ use. In order for us to be able to use it in that expanded manner, we have to have permission from the taxpayers of the County.”
If the proposition passes by Warren County voters, the use of the school facilities tax funds for mental health professionals or a school resource officer would also apply to the United School District.
