The City of Monmouth will be replacing a number of non-functioning and outdated water meters with digital meters, known as “radio read” water meters. As Advanced Plumbing and Mechanical has already be awarded the project of replacing the lead service lines across the city, they will be replacing the “dead” water meters as they move along, informs Mayor Rod Davies:
“Our Public Works Director brought to us that we have a number of older meters and they want to change out a couple hundred of those meters and purchase over 200 meters. That cost was $60,930. As we are doing our lead service line replacement, if we run into a “dead” meter or a meter that is really old or hard to get to and read, we can put one of these “radio read” meters in their place. We can get this done a no charge because Advanced Plumbing, who is doing the lead service line replacement, has to remove the meters during that process anyway, so it is just as easy for them to install a new “radio read” meter in those instances.”
The new “radio read” water meters provide more accurate readings and also offer a 90-day usage trend, allowing homeowners the opportunity to detect unusual spikes in water consumption.
