Celebrating the Monmouth College Fighting Scots community, faculty, and students, the ninth annual Scots Day of Giving is taking place on Wednesday, April 16th. Director of Alumni Engagement Jen Armstrong shares the tradition behind the 18 hour and 53 minute day and explains this year’s theme:
“On April 16th, we have our Scots Day of Giving, the day that we host for 18 hours and 53 minutes. We wrap our giving goals around our history. We were founded in 1853, that is why we work for 18 hours and 53 minutes that day taking donations. We have a theme this year of ‘This is Monmouth’s Moment’ and it is really embracing this new momentum coming with Dr. Patricia Draves, our new president. We look for a donor from all 50 states and every time we get a donation from a state, we have $1,000 that comes into our Monmouth Fund pot, which is the fund that meets those everyday needs. So, that is one of our projects and kind of our main goal, is to bring dollars in for the Monmouth Fund. We also raise money for the Fighting Scots Society, and we have two other projects this year; one is in the Dahl Chapel, improving the sound system there, and then the senior class gift always sponsors a project every year; this year it is going to be an outdoor basketball court, outside Peterson Hall.”
The annual Scots Day of Giving honors the milestones, mentors, and memories that have shaped Monmouth College and paves the way for future generations that step foot on campus.
