Fighting Scots Track and Field Win Seven; M-R Alum Delaney Rexroat Sets New Personal Record in Pole Vault

The Monmouth College men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Dick Young Classic at Grinnell on Saturday. Tashawn Ruffin (Bloomington, Illinois) won the triple jump for the third straight meet, Maddie Boley (Beecher, Illinois) won the hammer and had the best discus throw and best shot put by a D3 competitor, Eli Newton (Dallas City, Illinois) won the 1500m, the men won two relays and Monmouth swept the pole vault with wins by Matthew Bright (Macomb, Illinois) and Miranda Hursey (Hanna City, Illinois).

MEN
The men won the 4x100m and 4x400m relays on Saturday. Janius Taylor (Lakeland, Florida), Da’Von Patterson (Ponte Vedra, Florida) and Adrian Outlaw (Galesburg, Illinois) ran on both relays. Johnny York (Elmwood, Illinois) was part of the 4x100m team that finished in 41.94 seconds while Newton was the fourth runner on the 4x400m team that won in 3:22.92.

Taylor was second in the 100m race with a PR of 10.79 seconds while Patterson was fifth with a PR of 10.84 and York took seventh with a PR of 10.94. Outlaw took third in the 400m with a time of 51.47.

Competing for the first time in the outdoor season, Newton won the 1500m in 4:14.26.

Ruffin won the triple jump for the third week in a row as he went 13.81m, a new outdoor PR. Bright tied his career-best as he won the pole vault at 4.00m.

Shane Anderson (Lisle, Illinois) took third in the hammer throw at 51.52m while Caleb Toberman (Clifton, Illinois) was fourth in his first outdoor meet of the season. Toberman threw 51.16m and also took fifth in the shot put at 14.72m.

York was fifth in the long jump at 6.38m and Patrick Curry (Chicago, Illinois) was fifth in the hugh jump at 1.81m.

The men’s discus was still going on at time of publication.
WOMEN
Boley won the hammer at 49.64 with Jillian Toth (El Paso, Illinois) in second at 48.72m. Abbie Johnson (LaHarpe, Illinois) took third with a PR of 41.87m and Alayna Earle (Clinton, Illinois) was fourth with a PR of 41.27m as Monmouth swept the top four spots.

Boley was third overall in the discus at 44.08m with the only two in front of her from D1 Drake University Kayla Braun (Evansville, Illinois) was fifth at 35.52m

Boley took third in the shot put, again behind two D1 Drake throwers, with a season-best 13.34m and Braun was fourth with a season-best 12.80m

The 4x100m relay team was second in 50.77 seconds. Maddie Rusk (Annawan, Illinois), Makaiha Moore-Bell (Knoxville, Illinois), Delaney Rexroat (Monmouth, Illinois) and Natalie Gonzalez (Galesburg, Illinois) teamed up for the relay

Hursey won the pole vault at 3.25m with Rexroat in second with a PR of 3.05m and Megan Dailey (Pendleton, Indiana) in third at 2.85m.

Rexroat was second in the triple jump at 10.10m with Rusk in third at 10.09m. Dailey also took fourth in the long jump at 4.47m.

Lauren Anderson (Cambridge, Illinois) was third in the high jump with a season-best 1.44m.
