On Friday, April 11th at 10:00 AM, the Monmouth Fire Department responded to 1118 South 2nd Street for a report of a structure fire. Ladder 40, Engine 23, and Unit 505 responded to the scene and found a mobile home with heavy fire showing from the front half of the structure. Assistant Chief Armstrong requested a working still initiating the response of off-duty firefighters and Galesburg Hospital Ambulance Service while Chief Rexroat assumed command. Fire crews pulled two 1 ¾ handlines and knocked down the fire from the outside before moving inside to extinguish the remaining fire.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire and due to the extent of the damages, the home is not habitable. No injuries to fire personnel or civilians were reported.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Monmouth Fire Department.
