Since the passing of the Warren County School Facility Tax proposition by voters in the April 1st Consolidated Election, authorizing Warren County school districts to utilize school facility tax funds for a School Resource Officer, the City of Monmouth and the Monmouth-Roseville School District are going over a Memorandum of Understanding on how the process will work, explains Monmouth Police Chief Joe Switzer:

“There will be a selection process at the police department. I only have certain officers that are eligible to do this. By statue, they have to have at least three years of law enforcement experience, so that counts out some of by younger officers. The Sergeants and Lieutenants won’t be eligible for it, so that leaves me a handful of officers that we will evaluate and seek out if they are interested in doing that position. That person, whoever it is, they do have to be certified as a School Resource Officer in the state of Illinois before they can ever perform the job. There is a certification class in June that I have a slot reserved for, so whoever that person is, they will be going to that certification.”

Chief Switzer informs the intent is to have a School Resource Officer in the Monmouth-Roseville School District this next school year.
