Students in the Monmouth-Roseville School District are learning to connect what they learn in the classroom to careers with hands-on learning experiences, shares Superintendent Ed Fletcher:
“Specifically at the Junior High, Mr. Sikorski and some of his staff took some kids to the ‘Welcome to the Real World’ event in Galesburg; it is really cool to take kids to events like that and allow them to see the connection between school and their careers. Some kids don’t understand that what the teachers teach, they may not understand why they are teaching it, they just have to trust that somewhere along this continuum they will need that their teachers are teaching them. At Lincoln they do the same thing. Ms. Godina, in her classroom, they have basically a small town set up with a nail salon and pizza place, getting them to think and eventually tie attendance, tie good grades, tie good behavior, tie those things together so that along the continuum of pre-k through twelve, they hopefully have a much better understanding of what it is going to take to be successful in the world.”
As the second semester rolls on for Monmouth-Roseville students, Superintendent Fletcher reminds the Titan community of some upcoming dates, including an early out on Thursday, April 17th, no school on April 18th or 21st, prom is May 3rd, and graduation will be Sunday, May 25th.
