With the temperatures warming up during this season of spring, Family Medicine Dr. Jenna Dionisio, with OSF HealthCare Holy Family Medical Center, informs flu and COVID are slowing down, but some upper respiratory illnesses are lingering:
“We have our run of the mill upper respiratory infections that could be bacterial, they could be viral; something like a sinus issue or ear infection. I have been diagnosing strep throat and this needs to have an antibiotic. The common cause of strep is a bacteria, so absolutely, patients should come in if they are concerned. But thankfully I have not seen any measles, suspicious cases for measles. Thankfully, as of at least April 17th, when I last checked the Illinois Health Department site, there are no cases reported for measles in Illinois.”
According to the Illinois Department of Public Health Seasonal Respiratory Illness Dashboard, the respiratory illness activity level is at a low status.
