The next round of candidate testing with the Monmouth Fire Department will take place this summer, Saturday, June 21st. To apply, you must be a minimum of 21 years old and under 35 years of age, have a high school of GED diploma, possess a valid driver’s license, and be a United States citizen. Monmouth Firefighter Kyle Martin explains the stations candidates will go through during the testing process:

“The physical part of the test is divided up into four stations. The first station that you will be doing is the aerial ladder climb. It is a 107-foot ladder that applicants have to climb. The next stage is a hose maze, you pretty much just follow a hose, you can’t lift your hand, you have to maintain one hand on the hose at all times, and you are wearing a blacked out face mask. The third stage is a timed agility test. You go through five different exercises, like a hose pull, then you hit a sled with a mallet and hammer, a hose carry, then you will pull a hose up with a rope, and the last part is dragging a mannequin like 50 feet. Then the fourth and final stage is the run. It is a timed run, and it is a mile and a half. Then the second part is the written test.”

This Saturday, April 19th, the Monmouth Fire Department will be holding an information meeting and practice for the upcoming physical agility test beginning at 10 am at Station 1.
