United Red Storm Softball Staying Positive in Challenging Start

The United Red Storm Softball team took on Orion last Tuesday for a TRAC vs LTC matchup. The Red Storm struggled in this one, falling 18-1 to the Chargers. Emma Lair had United’s only hit. On Friday, United geared up for an LTC double header at Abingdon/Avon. In game one, United posted two runs in the top of the first, thanks to a Jacki Cairns single and an Emma Lair steal of home. The Tornadoes responded to the Red Storm’s early runs by throwing up 11 runs on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the inning. United dropped game one, 20-3. The Red Storm fell behind early in game two, as well, finding themselves behind by seven runs after the third frame. Fast forward to the top of the 5th inning, United scoots three runs across the plate, but it wasn’t enough. The Red Storm fall 9-3, Aubrey Bainter was 2-3 with 2 rbis in the loss.

United currently holds a record of 2-11 overall and 0-4 in the Lincoln Trail Conference. Head Coach of the Red Storm, Mike Maguire believes his team is getting better everyday as they continue holding their heads high.

United will try to get a winning streak started today, as they take on the West Central Heat for their Senior Night. This game will be on the air AM 1330, FM 95.7 pregame starting 4:10, first pitch set for 4:30. After a day off on Wednesday, the Red Storm will make a trip to Stronghurst on Thursday, to finish the 2-game series with West Central. United will then go to Galva for a Saturday conference double header.
