Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 27, 2025:
The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is freshman girls track and field athlete, Layla Katile. Layla won the shot put event in two invitationals last week. She was first at the Macomb Invitational with a throw of 32′ 3″. Later in the week, she threw the shot even further by placing first at the Rockridge Invite with a throw of 32′ 6.5″. Layla also had two, top-3 finishes in the discus event at each meet, as well.
The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week. This week the spotlight shines on freshman softball player, Mallory Giddings. Mallory had a hit in all three games for the Red Storm last week. She ended the week going 5-for-7. Mallory also led the team in runs scored with four, rbis with five and stolen bases with four.
The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior baseball player, Gage Stimpson. Gage reached base in all three games for the Heat last week. He also drove in five runs out of the leadoff spot in the batting order. After missing the first part of the season, Gage has returned to lead the Heat in batting average heading into the home stretch.
The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week. This week the spotlight shines on junior boys tennis player, Mohamed Shehata. Mohamed seems to pick his game up in the biggest events. He placed 2nd at #2 singles in the Galesburg Silver Streak Invitational. Mohamed was also 2nd at #2 singles at the recent Pekin Invitational.
The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is sophomore boys track and field athlete, Jamil Johnson. Jamil won the high jump event at the Knoxville Blue Bullet Invitational. His jump of just under 6 feet bested ten other competitors. Jamil was even better at the Farmington Tuffy Bowen Invite, this time jumping over 6 feet to tie for 1st.
