No action was taken by the Monmouth City Council at this time regarding entrance into a Prairie Hills Land Bank agreement, explains City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher:

“Vicki Livingston, who is the Executive Director of the Prairie Hills Resource Conservation and Development, they are in the process of organizing a Land Bank Authority. There are about a half a dozen land bank authorities throughout the state of Illinois currently. She talked about what services could be provided to municipalities and counties who would consider supporting that effort; really focused in on looking at blighted or abandoned buildings, deteriorated structures, or other types of environmental contamination. They would acquire those sites and clean them up and make them available for redevelopment. The primary focus was on residential development. No action was taken. It was just a discussion to make the council members more aware.”

Steinbrecher informs the City’s investment for this land bank program would be around $25,000 a year.
